SinclairSpeccy,

48 years ago on December 16, 1975, IMS Associates began shipping its IMSAI 8080 computer kits.

Originally shipped as kits for assembly by the user, the IMSAI 8080 gained popularity, and eventually, the company shifted to producing fully assembled units.

In total, between 17,000 and 20,000 units of the IMSAI 8080 were manufactured.

Subsequently, an additional 2,500 units were produced under the Fischer-Freitas name

dwgumby,

Look at that power supply, it's 1/3rd of the unit. There was so much talk about the Apple ]['s Astec switching power supply and how it was such a big difference. I don't fee like I appreciated the magnitude due to my young age.

To add to this on S100 bus the power was considered to be unregulated and so cards would have their own regulators in addition. You can see some in the picture. That huge capacitor is basically just part of rectification.

SinclairSpeccy,

@stebo @Cdespinosa Love how it takes up like one third of the computer lol
