13 y o has spent all day, give or take, listening to some Yale intro course on psychology, and is now following various people through common spaces hissing "do not give any nonverbal cues, or the experiment will be compromised"
I do fondly remember this exact age and stage of falling deep into autodidactic learning, and discovering with excitement that there is no bottom--you can just keep going. This is why I love Flavia de Luce- nailed it.
For me, it was taxonomy and ecology. I won a national gold medal in Science Olympiad at 14 and it's because I was this big of a dork, ecstatically. Learning as hedonic practice.
That said. Please not psychology. omg. apologies to any academic psychologists in my feed. 😬
@jordinn My BA was in Psych (+ English & Physics). I’ve spent years listening to the You Are Not So Smart podcast (https://youarenotsosmart.com) so I can learn all about the lack of reproducibility that’s basically undermining the entire field. (Not that all those lectures on Freud by people who still took him seriously wasn’t enough of a red flag. 🙄)
