Just gotta get ES back up and we are all done!

Ok ES is running and populating now, had to edit the jvm.options for the new servers RAM size.

@Arataka I'm wondering, what are the new specs.

The funny thing is that when I started Sakurajima back in end of October, I was using a 2 GB Linode, eventually upgraded to a 4 GB, which is where it sat to this day. Even at the peak last summer, it handle things surprisingly well.

I kind of feel that I should of just got a dedicated server if I was going to run Mastodon, Misskey/Sharkey, it's basically around the same price as a dedicated one now, but there are tradeoffs though.

@chikorita157 It's actually the same as yours now I believe lol, a 2CPU 4RAM cloud. Though I do keep ES on the same box and I just set the JVM options to 1gb and that seems to be fine. I have thought of putting everything in one box but honestly, I like having everything separated.

Moving to this takes the cost from around $20 per month to around $9 per month with the backup snapshots enabled to.

@chikorita157 Actually, I was wrong, it's a 3vCPU box

@Arataka It's probably shared too, right?

I now have a dedicated server since I was paying around $31 month for a VPS for my personal stuff and when I publish a post, it would crash the whole server when Wordpress sends the post out via ActivityPub and Mastodon servers try to get the previews and overload the server. Not to mention, the VPS didn't seem like a good deal with only 8 GB of RAM and 160 GB of storage, and performs poorly, because the CPU resources aren't dedicated. The dediicated one costs $43, which is only $13 more.

I am really thinking about moving the ElasticSearch and Meisearch stuff to the dedicated server since there is a lot of capacity. I really needed it for the CPU cores. Not sure moving the Sharkey instance to it is a good idea since it’s using Apache instead of nginx. But it has the latest PHP, so I'm good for a while.
