I do wonder how many big companies feel they made a mistake in handing so much power and control to Apple for their last major platform, and simply aren't prepared to do that again
@stroughtonsmith moreso than the iPad, vision Pro aligns with new revenue for Apple but very very little new revenue for big apps. There are effectively 0 users who are not subscribed to Netflix that will do so if they release a visionOS app. No short or even medium term return on investment means no urgency. Apple is going to have to do a lot of the heavy lifting to prove this platform is necessary.
@stroughtonsmith Hmmmmm. I can see that perspective from their point of view. I also like the fact Apple is kind of hard nosed about it and I get a real consistent experience across platforms and applications. I'm undecided but reflex is "screw 'ew." I guess this is one of those wait and see sort of affairs.
@stroughtonsmith I have been thinking the same thing. Apple is already making noise about the Vision being the next step in computing, but who wants to go all-in on yet another walled-garden ecosystem?
Also makes me wonder if Apple will ever release another MacOS-style open system. Probably not, if they can help it.
@stroughtonsmith Last major platform being iOS? You think Vision Pro is on the same level as that? Or it being more on the level of say iPadOS or watchOS?
