recently we discussed kagi search engine which is paid search engine giving you better results and tooling. as subscriber i was asked is it worth it? which is traditional reddit trope.
trying an experiment, i tried search results for various terms in all of the big-data corpo engines and kagi won every time.
the free account is 300 searches for you to try. however one can exhaust this in a few hours depending on their search skillset and objective.
@threat Honestly I never used it but I have personally been curious of it tbh.
On one hand, A search engine that's actually really good from what I heard as it is truly privacy based. On the other hand, There's a fee behind it and if you want to access it and have to use an account.
To me, I don't know if I should really dwelve into it as a subscription based service tends to turn me off, But I understand if it is worth it for the other aspects.
@anonicus@threat better get used to it, I suspect the Internet, at least the better parts of it, will have a lot more paid services if you want to avoid big tech and big data's bullshit

Pay a fee to have more privacy on the internet seems like a necessity anymore for services to stay up.
@Moon@ghast same. but i expensed it @ corpo for this year. but will gladly pay for renewal. between this and a few other bits of tooling you have big brain on tap!
@Moon@threat@ghast I'm unsure if I'd call it Google at its peak. Google at its peak was around 2010 to 2014 or something like that and it was insane to use. Nowadays it degraded so much that you probably don't remember how amazing it used to be
@allison@ghast@Moon@coolboymew some esoteric shvt is harder to find on goog, always was. when you have to come up with blvkhat techniques to find a page on lore for a vibrating toaster, you know it's over
@threat@ghast@Moon@coolboymew real. I don't have the money to put up for a kagi sub, so I've just become adept at manipulating GBY and every smaller search engine I have access to in order for them to give me what I want.
@allison@ghast@Moon@threat I used to be pretty good at that but Google has became such garbage that I had a hard time using it anymore, plus every other search engines were just simply not as good
@coolboymew@ghast@threat OK true. It's hard to estimate because one cannot separate that it was just easier to index back then since AI SEO hadn't been invented yet
