there also is container2wasm where they compile a x86 emulator to wasm and use that to run normal containers in the browser. works surprisingly well.

See, that's what I was hoping/fearing it was. The example of getting debian running in browser is like something from a nightmare... A beautiful, wonderful nightmare.
