For new features: You are knee deep in sh*t to get the features up and running without breaking too much, so updates please only when necessary. For maintenance: Lucky you: Add tests (automated or documented manual) and then update, update, update. Add renovate or similar. Key are IMO tests. Otherwise your customers will find the problems....
