Where I live people don't watch their dogs if you happen to walk on the streets because you exercise.

A few times in a few days I have been yelled at by dog owners because their unwatched dog ran on the street and they could not run after it. I got quite lucky that the dog was not violent.

I prefer to warn people that nowadays people are that way. I don't see exactly why I have to be held accountable for this and it is a stress that could be easily avoided for both parties.

If I had a dog and I lived next to a street I would keep my dog on a leech because you never know what the dog can do. That to me is common sense and if my dog charged a person in front of my house I would say I am sorry.

@compost

They yelled at you because their dog got out and chased you? 🤔 I cannot fathom people's nerve. I have an ancient dog who still barks like she wants to take your face off, although she is actually quite timid. When I have her out with me in the yard (never unmonitored) her harness is on two clips, just in case. Mainly for her safety, but I also wouldn't want to scare my neighbors.

@crcollins That is the way people behave here, the sad thing is that now we have a toddler who is afraid of dogs because it happened a few times as we were having a walk with him. We now have to find safe places to walk.

A child should never be scared like that and should in all safety be able to handle contact with a dog. But no here it is too much to ask for.

Yes, I am absolutely disgusted to live among those people.

@compost Where is this? Most places in the world dog owners are 100% responsible for the dog, with legal enforcement if they don't have the dog under control and severe penalties if there's a consequence of not doing.

@TerryBTwo South of the USA, that place that wants to be great but where you can't tell people they are not doing great.

thegardendude,

@compost The Venn diagram circles of people who let their dogs off-leash and people who drive cars recklessly but get big mad at people riding their bikes is the same circle pretty much. 🤦‍♂️

@thegardendude Yes it is the reason I stopped cycling, i did that for more than 10 years, but since people prefer to be distracted by their phone when they drive, I got really scared quite a few times. It killed my joy and fun.
