@rooster Ouch! Hopefully, I've never done that to you. 😬 Being an honorary Southern gal (I was raised by Arkies) and older, I have to be careful not to overuse "sweetie" or stoop to "honey." Oddly enough, some men like the latter especially when my original accent gets especially thick. Men are weird.
@DavidNielsen Yes, it is a particularly Southern affect. I've tried not to do it myself, but such vocabulary and an unnatural diphthong occasionally do me in. And then, of course, there are those damn vowels.
Hell, I was 10 or 11 years old before I realized that the word "wash" didn't have an "r" in it.

Right out of college I got a job in Oklahoma City. After working for about two weeks an older lady I worked with said “You aren’t from around here, are you hun?”
I said “No, ma’am.”
“Well, where are you from?”
“I grew up in Alaska.”
She broke into a big smile and said “Oh, I thought you were a Yankee!”
