Does anyone else get the feeling that, rather than listen to their own or their constituents' humanity and stop the genocide, the Powers That Be ™️ have decided to drop the last vestiges of pretence that the west is any kind of a democracy and go full fascist?

Analysis

Chicago, 1968: Anti-war protests, a divided Democratic Party, an unpopular candidate hobbled by a foreign military conflict.

Protests are planned for this August's Democratic National Convention.

Chicago has refused to give the necessary permits, citing lack of police resources & security concerns.

The city has offered an alternative protest site four miles away & out of sight from convention-goers.

Organizers say "unacceptable" & have sued.

@DrALJONES I honestly think they will cancel both conventions. They would rather forego the publicity in order to avoid being criticized.

Whatever you don't like about the Biden record, you should understand that when it comes to the rights of workers, and regaining some actual competition in markets, this administration has been mostly awesome -- leagues ahead than Clinton and Obama, and in a different (way, way, way better) universe than Republicans since, well, TR.

RE: campus protests

The only violence being perpetrated in these protests is by cops and military personnel.

The only threat to the safety of students, Jewish and otherwise, is by administrators and their henchmen in blue and green.

Protesting the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by Israel on Palestinians is not antisemitic.

Many of those protesting and being arrested are Jews.

And most of this is being supported and carried out by Democratic officials, including being fully supported by the Zionist in Chief Joe Biden.

The Democrats keep trying to scare us about the threat to democracy represented by a second Trump administration, while the first Biden administration tramples basic individual rights.

We are tired of it. We will not support you. You are digging your own graves and for what? A genocidal cult?

“IF I MUST DIE”
BY REFAAT ALAREER

If I must die,

you must live

to tell my story

to sell my things

to buy a piece of cloth

and some strings,

(make it white with a long tail)

so that a child, somewhere in Gaza

while looking heaven in the eye

awaiting his dad who left in a blaze—

and bid no one farewell

not even to his flesh

not even to himself—

sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above

and thinks for a moment an angel is there

bringing back love

If I must die

let it bring hope

let it be a tale

I was about to start hating on e-bikes less but it seems they are all becoming as annoying as motorcycles.

And I already hate cars.

The majority of humans simply don't have the reflexes or the ethical awareness to use these vehicles safely in a crowded city.

Ready for a #geopolitics #thread that will scare the living shit out of you?

Here goes.

Ink in the blogosphere is beginning to spread about the proposed #Biden #HumanitarianAid bridgehead on the Mediterranean coast of #Gaza.

Some are saying it’s a distraction to appease #voters while Biden continues to provide arms and cover. Some, that the intention is to actually benefit the #zionists by providing a place to evacuate #palestinians. Some go so far as to claim it’s intended as the terminus of the #Israeli #RiverToTheSea dream.

My take? These theories fail to understand the #evil genius leaders in the U.S. are capable.

Serious question, please boost for reach.

I’m a 50+ white male.

How many old white guys out there would be willing join a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to oppose old white guys in positions of power? How many people would be willing to provide financial support for the same?

Nothing like this currently exists in the U.S. and I think it could be a damn effective form of protest. Personally, I’m sick and tired of seeing old fucking white guys in power everywhere I turn. Am I an aberration?

Oh, and despite thinking of myself as a bit of wordsmith, I’m admittedly terrible at acronym generation. What’s a good name for an organization pursuing said mission?

PaulDitz,
@PaulDitz@todon.eu avatar

@LeftistLawyer You aren't an aberration, but the old white guys in power have made a world that has left me perpetually broke, so although I am a white guy over 50 who agrees with you, there won't be any financial assistance.

I post some heavy shit. But there's a very good reason I have so little patience with the horrible crap going on all around us:

    Solutions exist.

All of the energy and resources being poured into endless war right now, need to be aimed instead towards projects like this.

It is possible to rehabilitate large-scale ecosystems. Enough carbon could be sequestered this way, to actually return us to pre-Industrial levels.

I grew up with my father, an engineer, constantly explaining in detail the short-sighted flaws in how many things are done all around us, and how it could be fixed by people willing to do things the right way.

This is why I'm so fired up. We can do so much better than the pathetic fate we're expected to resign ourselves to. The Paris Accords don't come close. The oh-so-greenwashed infrastructure act and inflation reduction act are laughable next to the scale of what needs to be done. People who promote net zero scams and blather about tech miracles are dodging the issue and wasting our time. They think 3C increase is acceptable. They will let us burn. They are liars who want you to believe I'm trying to discourage you by pointing out the flaws in what's happening. The opposite is true.

    Solutions exist. There is hope.

Corporate toadies of the fossil fuel industry don't want us to realize it-- nothing else is so dangerous to the tyranny of the status quo, as the realization that solutions exist. It's an enormous job, but we CAN do it if enough resources are directed the right way.

    And every little bit counts.

Your yard, your neighbor's yard, the median, the ditch, empty lots-- anywhere. Everywhere. Build topsoil. Like our lives depend on it. They do.

Build connections, trust, friendships. Repair things. Find people with good hearts, people who are building something real. People who talk about work like this:

@violetmadder I've always said, contrary to how it is portrayed, that anarchism is probably the most optimistic of political and economic philosophies. This is because it actually has faith that human beings, left to their own devices, without coercion, can build a world that best suits the needs of their community.
