Obviously, people are entitled to their own interpretations, but this is virtually "I don't like these words in the same sentence together". No one is saying anyone "should/do" anything 🙃
I hope this feels related to your point: I once asked a non-binary student that I was close to about whether they cared about pronoun statements. They told me that they were mixed about them because forcing everyone to state their pronouns forces someone who is not sure or not ready to come out as non-binary to have to state something. I hadn't thought about it before like that.
I tend to be wary of people telling me how inclusive they are rather than showing me.
Sometimes I'm surprised at the persecution complex on the right, and sometimes I'm surprised at the persecution complex on the left...
(That said, there's an enormous amount of false equivalency here, because only one of these sides disproportionately tend to feel the need/desire to carry lethal weapons specifically designed to kill other human beings 24/7, ostensibly for self-defense.)
In grad school, a professor talked to us about "The Minority Thesis of American Identity" which is that the unifying feature of American identity is that everyone thinks that they are a persecuted minority in one way or another. Even rich white elites think that they are oppressed (see Ayn Rand).
I can't find the source for it so it might have been the professor being tongue-in-cheek but there are times that I think there is a kernel of truth to the idea.
