I’ve never had my ears pierced, I don’t do my nails, and I wear makeup maybe 3 times/year, so I KNOW I’m an anomaly… but whenever I see the sheer QUANTITY of earrings and necklaces and jewelry and lipsticks and nail polish and blah blah blah being sold EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME, I can’t help but think about how it would be so much better for everyone and the planet (in the crisis context) if all of these things ceased to exist. (I’m not advocating for this or anything! Just overwhelmed.)

I don’t know; do other women think about this? How even the “upcycled ocean plastic” earrings are still just earrings, so they will all end up in the landfill (or the ocean again) eventually? Where did the diamond on your engagement ring come from, and how much oil did we burn to get it there?

I don’t say these things to people I know because I don’t want to ruin their day. And I’m not criticizing them! But still, stuck inside my head, I feel very overwhelmed.

Got myself a one-person feast at Desi Bites in ! 😆🎉 They’re not “Abhiruchi level” (i.e. the best food in all of , except located in Vancouver WA) but I loved getting a bit of everything with their vegetarian thali which comes with a single bite of dessert - the perfect portion! The egg curry was a bit too sweet for me, but I’m coming back for sambar on Tuesdays!

(I went to see Monkey Man afterwards, which sadly contained 0% Indian food… but 500% Dev Patel! 🇮🇳🔥)

Hi neighbors, I’m considering buying an e-bike (instead of a car, so think one-person Costco hauls) and I’m wondering if anyone is willing to share insights/advice/pro tips on living the e-bike + no elevator top floor apartment dweller lifestyle 😅

I can move but I want to stay in the suburbs so an elevator is a tough ask… should I try to secure a storage/garage allotment? Is regular bike parking secure enough? Do I start powerlifting now so I can take on a 50lb bike?

Is there a way to get @ivory to manually fetch or refresh accounts/profiles/toots of people on other servers?

I know I can open their profile in the in-app browser, but it’s such a hassle to have to log in and MFA every single time I want to follow/boost anything, and for some reason a lot of profiles never gets refreshed so I never see their updated profile/content in . decentralized infrastructure problems… 🥲

Sometimes I'm surprised at the persecution complex on the right, and sometimes I'm surprised at the persecution complex on the left...

(That said, there's an enormous amount of false equivalency here, because only one of these sides disproportionately tend to feel the need/desire to carry lethal weapons specifically designed to kill other human beings 24/7, ostensibly for self-defense.)

After several months of mandatory , I’ve concluded that on the whole, I strongly prefer 2 days/week in the office as opposed to 3 (or 4 or 5 or 1 or 0).

But also, I want to do 0 if the weather is cold and wet and miserable, and 3+ if the weather is warm and sunny and beautiful. 🚴🏻‍♀️✨

So in the end, all I truly want is trust and autonomy. 😅

@seanbala Yesss John Oliver is great! 😂 The whole system that normalizes a 30-YEAR (nearly my entire life up to this point!) mortgage seems absurd to me, and judging by the numbers, perhaps to many of my peers as well.

(I know it's supposed to be interpreted as "the bank will allow me to take my time to pay them" instead of "signing up to be in debt for 30 years", but still...)

昨日のお昼頃にやっと相方の諸々が解決したので、私はカリフォルニアへ、相方はメキシコへ、無事帰省 🎉

今朝空港で「いい加減1月の旅行先を決めなければいけない」と決断を迫った結果、ヨーロッパ旅行がキャンセルになったので、このままだと極寒の韓国＆日本旅行へ行く事になりそう 😂

UPDATE: After booking, cancelling, re-booking, and re-cancelling the Europe trip, we’re set to meet up at SFO and fly to Seoul! 🇰🇷 We’re going to take the train to Busan!!🧟🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️ Definitely planning to spend at least 2 nights in Fukuoka before flying back to Portland from Tokyo 🇯🇵

After the New Year’s Day magnitude 7.6 earthquake that killed 100+ people, the JAL/Japan Coast Guard runway crash-fire-explosion, and now the Boeing 737 MAX 9s being grounded after an entire door-sized hole blew open midair above PDX… we’re strongly considering cancelling our South Korea/Japan trip 💀

I spent most of my Saturday playing with my new DIY Framework 13 @frameworkcomputer and it was super fun & amazing! 💖 So far, I:

  • Installed 38 and discovered it uses DNF (not APT)
  • Got then immediately uninstalled it in favor of QEMU/KVM
  • Migrated from 1Password to
  • Got Slack then immediately uninstalled it since it conflicted with Bitwarden installation

Plus I went down a few rabbit holes here and there, because that’s how you learn ! 😂

My 6 month review: I'm very happy I switched over to , but my machine might be failing... 💀 I posted in the community forum and submitted a support ticket too, so we'll see how it goes! https://community.frame.work/t/sudden-extremely-slow-startup/49909

On the other hand, my brother is a longtime Ubuntu user, so I'm strongly considering switching distros just so I can geek out with him 😂

@seanbala Thank you so much! I’m happy with it, but more in the sense that I have something new to learn all the time 😂

My big goal was (is!) to learn Linux on an environmentally friendly machine, so my choices were to buy 1) refurbished, or 2) brand-new = Framework (because it seems more flexible than System76).

The huge advantage that I have is that my personal computer can have hardware failures for weeks and I’ll be okay because I have my work computer. So without this, it might be risky.
