I just tried to sign into my Gravatar, and it sent me a verification link, which ended up creating a new account for my email address, which has none of my avatars stored on it. WTF?! I don’t even know how to recover from this. My email address hasn’t changed.
Somehow, the primary email address I use everywhere got disconnected from my Gravatar/WordPress.com account. I was able to regain access through one of my alternate email addresses, but I now have to wait 30 days before I can add my primary address back to my account because that’s how long it takes to completely close the new WordPress.com account it automatically created for me.
This wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t automatically create accounts for email addresses they don’t recognize.
@ramsey Also I can never remember what tool I use to make these diagrams. So I have to find an existing one, then read the metadata to find out which app made it.
@courtney@ronnieburt I probably removed my primary email address by accident, at some point. Then, when I entered it to get a login link, it just sent me the link, like nothing was wrong. I clicked it, and then I had a brand new account, with no avatars.
@ramsey@ronnieburt I do see Gravatar being actively developed and brought into a modern era again. Yay! So many systems use it. Hope you get it sorted soon and avoid that in the future.

I set up this address and verified it on my Gravatar account, then I attempted to log in to Gravatar from the laptop where I use this email address (and cannot receive email for my primary address), so I entered that address and clicked the link it sent, and it created a new account and disassociated the address from my other account. Now, I have to wait 30 days to add this address, too.
@courtney@ronnieburt So, now I know that, for my original issue, the problem wasn’t that I removed my primary email address. I apparently set the primary email address to another one and kept the original address as a gravatar address, and then when I tried to login with the original address (because I forgot I changed it), it sent me a link to that address and clicking it created a new account, disassociating the address from my real account.
@courtney@ronnieburt I have a bunch of email addresses associated with my Gravatar account. It shouldn’t be this easy to accidentally disassociate them and inadvertently create a new account.
@courtney@ronnieburt It’s also incredibly frustrating that I can’t log in from any device. I must log in from a device where I can receive email only for the primary email on my account.
@grmpyprogrammer I use it in a lot of places, like GitHub, for example, but I’m not sure how to recover my account because my email address is now connected to this new account.
