Interesting choice to make a band Pitchfork has barely covered a headliner of the Pitchfork Music Festival

@ernie They also only reviewed two of Alanis Morissette’s 10 albums (not counting her pre-Jagged Little Pill work), and one of those was an April Fool’s joke, giving Under Rug Swept an 8.2. They could be such assholes. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/5429-under-rug-swept/

@andybaio I’m convinced that one of two things happened:

  • GQ convinced them they had to bring these mainstream-ish acts on (It might be a good thing. Pitchfork is honestly overdue to give Alanis a re-assessment)
  • The normal big-tent indie acts that would be leading the lineup bailed after the layoffs

One notable thing I read about Black Pumas is that they played Lollapalooza a couple years back and were introed by Lori Lightfoot. Apparently, the audience thinned out fast.

@andybaio Black Pumas, whose music is honestly good, have a very strong industry-plant reputation, which makes their headlining spot suspect for an event like this.

Black Pumas is pretty good, actually, but Pitchfork didn't even review their second record.

This feels like a GQ booking.
