Someone contacted me about a blog post I wrote around 2004 about a 1993 issue of Wired I bought on eBay back then that they desperately need today and I probably still have it in a storage box sitting with old office things.

Given the current state of Google Search, I’m amazed they found any part of this.

So for reasons out of my control, the fresh Tedium we had planned to post needed to get delayed for a week. (It’s going to be a piece by @mattl, who I appreciate for being flexible amid chaos on my end.)

But the great thing about @tedium is that it has archives hundreds of miles deep, and it led me to resurface an eight-year-old piece about umbrella patents:

And you be clear of what I mean: there isn't any "non profit" reasons for a German company to stablish a non-profit entity in the US. Zero.

@javi Doesn’t having a 501(c)3 allow for donations from U.S. donors to be tax-deductible? I imagine that alone would be worth forming a U.S. non-profit arm

404 Media is doing a great job at getting tech companies to moderate bad actors on their platforms, impressive for such a small indie publication. Their reporting directly led to action at two major tech companies this week: Discord shut down the Spy Pet search engine that sold access to user messages. https://www.404media.co/discord-shuts-down-spy-pet-bots-that-scraped-sold-user-messages/

And Apple removed multiple AI “nudify” apps from the App Store.

It’s fun to watch the newest season (the 21st!) of top chef as they reveal one of the participants has a muscular degenerative disorder and you instantly realize reality tv shows have NEVER thought about accessibility for contestants before.

The entire genre was designed for healthy 22 year old competitors. They have to sprint when the host says GO to get ingredients, they make people cook under the hot sun outdoors for hours on end, everything is timed and you have to move FAST or you lose.

@mathowie It's sad how often he makes self-deprecating comments about his age (he's 46) and calls himself "the old guy," while dealing with a rare neuromuscular disease and trying to hide his cane and leg braces. Here's another example of how the producers fail to create a level playing field. https://people.com/top-chef-dan-jacobs-talks-about-his-kennedys-disease-exclusive-8634935

The smartest line from Ted Lasso was when Ted says something like every man should be able to get up and get out the door and into the world smelling clean and fresh in as long as it takes to listen to Easy Lover by Philip Bailey & Phil Collins once (song is 5:07 long)

Today I crushed it with a 3min shower, about a minute spent on grooming and throwing clothes on and I still got to enjoy the end of the song as I drove away from my house.

Stumbled on a tech history Substack. I’m glad to see someone else in this space, but one of the challenges I see for this writer is that there’s not a lot of color in what they’re building. It jumps straight into the facts, no context, no voice.

I don’t mean to demean the work, to be clear, but I think the framing is a challenge. The article starts with the creator every time out, rather than the cultural context. You don’t get a lot of the “why” in the writing.

April is National Poetry Month, and this year, I was honored to help Oregon's tenth poet laureate, Anis Mojgani, expand his wonderful Telepoem Poetry Phoneline with new options to explore. Just call (503) 928-7008 any time this month and you'll get a new poem read to you daily, or use the menus to hear a random poem from the archives or choose any day from the last two years of the project.

@stublag @hotdogsladies they never played it live until 2022 because of the challenging vocals (and still have only played it 15 times total), but their 2023 Bonnaroo performance was better than the original IMO (44:30 mark) https://youtu.be/YuVZnjYX6tw#t=44m30s
