I was on the cusp of starting to hate motorcycles less and then some guy blasted past me on his Harley on a crowded sidewalk in front of a cafe, almost hitting like 15 people.
I was about to start hating on e-bikes less but it seems they are all becoming as annoying as motorcycles.
And I already hate cars.
The majority of humans simply don't have the reflexes or the ethical awareness to use these vehicles safely in a crowded city.
I myself once toyed with the idea of getting a motorcycle. Then I realized that since the adoption of modern workplace safety laws they are the leading cause of amputations in our society
I remember one of my friend's dads was really into motorcycles. To celebrate his retirement he got a new flashy bike and planned a huge roadtrip.
One the second day this guy, super experienced and been riding motorcycles his entire life... driving on a flat road on a sunny day... wrecks and breaks both of his wrists and both of his ankles.
I was like. if this can happen to a super experienced rider in perfect riding conditions, this can happen to anyone.
When I was about 16 or 17, I was not a fan of motorcycles but a friend of a friend had one for sale and I was yearning for the freedom of having personal transportation but couldn't afford anything more than this beat-up old bike. So I bought it.
Eager to try it out, after dinner I took it for a spin. I went just a few blocks and was going to turn left, stopping at the red light, in the left turn lane in a well-lit intersection. As the light turned green I gave the bike some gas and it stalled. I went to kick start it and as I pushed my foot down on the starter it felt like I had somehow caused the bike to rocket out from under me with a huge bang, a really bizarre sensation!
I flew through the air, doing a flip and landing across the street. Someone had slammed into me from behind, apparently never even hitting their brakes. No idea why they didn't see me. My new transportation was utterly demolished and their car looked to be totaled as well.
From the scrape marks on my helmet it looked like I landed head first. I made a pointless visit to ER. Had some scrapes, not terrible, bruised up pretty good but nothing broken. I was lucky and never wanted anything to do with motorcycles again!
