I honestly don't think that's a bad thing. Real creativity results from restriction. Take a look at Koji Kondo for example. The hardware restrictions of his time resulted in awesome pieces of art that still hold up to this day.

We have enough data to show that from The Beatles to Bieber, from Bob Dylan to Britney Spears, from Led Zeppelin to Lady Gaga, Pop music, on the whole, has become less melodic, less experimental, and less varied. There’s always exceptions, but if we stick to “Pop music” - music that is popular - like what we’d call Top 40, then we have the data.
