Glad to finally see something of the Labour manifesto for the upcoming election. While it's not the bold vision I'd like to see it has key aspects that I'm pleased to see (NHS, education, devolution, green energy). Not sure why they can't be bold about taxing wealth (vs income) and other fundraising but I guess it's a start. And Starmer does sound "sensible" which I suspect will win over a lot of people.
@CatherineFlick we need to be taxing income as well, it's not as if most of the reduced taxes has gone anywhere other than into housing price inflation, which has done most of us no favours at all. I don't know how we are going to get everyone to understand that along with the climate catastrophy that we are now in being the prime issue
@CatherineFlick But what has Starmer actually committed to? It seems to me like a lot of aspirational tinkering. His appropriation of "take back control" rhetoric indicates that he's happy to be associated with lies. The man is an arse.
@adrianfry Yeah this is the sort of thing I am just not entertaining right now. It is not helpful in the slightest at this point. Until we revamp the voting system to be actually useful this sort of rhetoric is useless.
BTW not super interested in responses to this that boil down to the left eating itself. There's a lot about the current Labour party that sucks. Really sucks. But I don't want more Tories again. Get them out first and then we can pressure Labour to implement more radical change.
