I want there to be professionals in all businesses. I want people to know what they’re doing and provide help when a customer seeks services. People become professionals with proper training, time and a growing wage commensurate with growing responsibility and knowledge, benefits and job security. Whether one is a waiter, sells shoes, cars or is a lawyer, doctor or engineer is immaterial.
@StillIRise1963 I could not agree with this more. Everyone deserves to sustain themselves with just one job and be treated with dignity and respect as they do it.
@StillIRise1963 It used to be the case! At least in Europe when my parents were young. E.g. retail staff were specialized in what they were selling. And I had a friend in my late teens who was in retail. While they moved her throughout the department store during her training she specialized in lingerie. I wish we would still do that.
@bowreality I remember that world as well. The person who sold you shoes could look at your feet and instantly know what would work best for you in both style and comfort. They were professionals. In Spain, waiters are professionals. The older women who worked in lingerie could look at your chest, know what size your boobs were and that your bra was the wrong size.
@StillIRise1963 love this idea! I also want us to stop giving so much weight to a degree. I appreciate my BA immensely but I work with people who have their MA and the idea that they can supervise people just because they have a Master’s degree is laughable.
