People who don’t come forward about the abuse they are experiencing aren’t dumb, cowardly, or a glutton for punishment. They don’t “enjoy” it, and they aren’t OK with it. The fear of repercussions by the abuser if things don’t change for the better because of the attempt is overwhelming. Unless you’ve been there, don’t pretend you know your way around.
