Yesterday Vernissage for Pixelfed had its anniversary, and today I wanted to introduce a new app in the fediverse: Vernissage. It is a platform for photographers with photos at the center, with a clean and minimalist interface. The official instance is available here: https://vernissage.photos. Currently, the platform is in the testing phase, so registration is still closed. We will publish invitation codes here soon.

@vernissage is it open source yet? This sounds pretty neat!

@ch0ccyra1n yes of course that it’s open sourced:

API: https://github.com/VernissageApp/VernissageServer
WEB: https://github.com/VernissageApp/VernissageWeb
Documentation: https://api.vernissage.photos/

In the same organization there is also repo with iOS client for Pixelfed.

@vernissage so if I understand, it’s connected to other fediverse apps (so we see my PixelFed account on the screenshots), but it has its own server software, different from PixelFed, right?

vernissage,
@vernissage@mastodon.social avatar

@nhoizey Exactly, the server software is different and the web client is different (created with totally different technology but with ActivityPub protocol support).

Your photos are displayed on this new server (vernissage.photos) because someone who following you boost your photos, and this account is being followed by someone on the vernissage.photos server. Fediverse 😉.

@vernissage ok, great! 👍

@vernissage Wait so is Vernissage breaking away from Pixelfed?

vernissage,
@vernissage@mastodon.social avatar

@anthonyvardiz Vernissage for Pixelfed will always be a client supporting Pixelfed. It is possible that I will change its name at some point in the future (to avoid confusion).

anthonyvardiz,
@anthonyvardiz@mastodon.social avatar

@vernissage Will there be a way to move my photos from Pixelfed to Vernissage? I will be a day one transfer. The new Vernissage looks so clean! 🤩

vernissage,
@vernissage@mastodon.social avatar

@anthonyvardiz I don't know that yet. It seems to be doable. The only thing I might have a problem with is downloading comments. Do you think it would be a good functionality even without comments?

anthonyvardiz,
@anthonyvardiz@mastodon.social avatar

@vernissage Yeah I wouldn’t mind not being able to transfer comments. If I can’t export from Pixelfed and import to Vernissage, I’ll just re-upload all my stuff from Pixelfed manually anyway.

@anthonyvardiz @vernissage might be worth waiting for the data portability task force to finish their initial work, but I think it'd totally be possible to copy reply collections & just make it clear the reply was addressed to the moved account.

anthonyvardiz,

@thisismissem @vernissage Thanks! Is there a way I can follow the progress on this task force?
