Getting a new computer, and the thought of moving dotfiles has me shook. I hope vim will support XDG someday.

@tenderlove have you used stow? I've used it when switching workstations and it's not perfect, but gives errors when overwriting files (in the new laptop) so it attempts to install your config. It's a fancy cp

EDIT: there's also xstow which is a binary (c++) as opposed to a bunch of perl scripts
