@charliejane But consider: it should also be illegal to make anyone's phone go beep-beep-here-is-a-message when you aren't 100% certain that the recipient isn't deep in some thoughtful or imaginative reverie.
@pluralistic@charliejane It should be illegal to phone anybody who doesn't have you in their phone's "favourites" list. Or to phone them while they're in bed or on the toilet.
@cstross@pluralistic@charliejane you're going to have to have a back port with physical sensors with legacy toilets though. hardware, this is why we all hate hardware
@cstross@pluralistic I long ago set up my phone so it doesn't make a sound or pop up a notification for texts from people I don't know. And it doesn't ring between 10 PM and 10 AM except for trusted contacts.
@charliejane@pluralistic Same but is a gentle flogging too much to ask for if my phone company cold-calls me the instant I'm out of contract lock-in? Preferably for the CEO, I don't care about punishing the call-centre staff, it's not their fault.
@charliejane@cstross@pluralistic Literally filed a bug report asking for filters on iMessage last week. Give me a regex filter list screen and a big on/off switch in the main Message GUI to hide all filtered matches when it’s on. Because it’s political season and holy hell does everyone and their dog want a donation.
