EDIT: Apparently my system can't handle USB 3.2 2x2 so the test is moot.

For those who may be in the market for external SSDs…

Samsung's T7 has been a favorite of internet folks for some time. The T9 came out late last year with the promise of (up to) double the read & write speeds (2,000 MB/s!). I don't need the speed, but I was curious. Bought both drives with the intention of returning one.

Wouldn't ya know that the speeds are almost indistinguishable.

T7 Shield it is.

@Dylan I think the catch is that your computer needs to support USB-4 at 20Gbps speeds, which Macs do not without Thunderbolt support and neither do a whole lot of PCs.

@bnys I thought that might be it, but according to Apple's site all of my Mac's USB C ports support Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s).

@Dylan Ah sorry I got it slightly wrong: this uses some weird implementation of the USB 3.2 spec that is basically double lanes of 10Gbps (3.2 Gen2x2...catchy!). Apple doesn't support this. It's not USB-4 or TB, it's USB 3.

@bnys Ha, that's hilarious. Wonder why they skipped out on 3.2. Thanks for the clarification!
