For some reason when Dropbox is downloading files my audio on any sound device starts to studder quite a ton. Would anyone know why?

@spaciath @simon Is your Dropbox on an external storage device, and if so, what sort of device and how is it connected? What's your download speed, and are you connecting over wi-fi? What machine do you have?

simon,

@jscholes @spaciath Also, I just realized you said "any sound device", meaning "not just audio interfaces". Does this include the onboard soundcard?

@simon @jscholes It does include the onboard card yes. Network speed is normally around 900mbps depending where I am in the house. I am connecting over wi fi as this machine has no ethernet unles I use a USBC adapter. Running Windows 10 22H2 (AMD64) build 19045.4291 on a Inspiron 14 7430 2-in-1 laptop. STORAGE: 1TB SSD
RAM: 16GB
PROCESSOR: i7-1355U

@simon @jscholes @spaciath My computer does this under any heavy network load, it doesn't have to be dropbox. My wi-fi network goes up to 40 MB/s down, and when I breach 30 or so it stutters. The built-in sound card does small looped segments, my external one has drop-outs. Some kind of I/O contention.

simon,

@spaciath Happens to everyone, I'm not sure anyone knows why. Just one more reason I hate the fucking thing. I think a few very well-known podcasters spent years recording in some specific way because Dropbox was screwing up their interfaces and they didn't realize it was Dropbox.

FluidEscence,

@simon @spaciath not everyone. Never had that happen on any machine I've ever owned, even an old 1.66 ghz atom netbook from 2010.

simon,

@FluidEscence @spaciath Yeah, when I read this, I thought this was referring to audio interfaces, but apparently this is on all sound devices. That's not as common, though I've seen it happen. Could be a Dropbox thing, could be a "My Mini PC is cheap and everything's hooked up to USB, even the wi-fi and sound card" problem
