soweliniko,

I am starting to form a dislike for "mindfulness"
not the practice of meditation, which I find very helpful and think is positive. But "mindfulness". The industry of it. "mindfulness" is what your boss schedules into the work day as a way to claim they are supporting you and not exploiting you. "mindfulness" is what the overworked nurse tells you to do because the health system is fucked and you can't afford therapy. "mindfulness" is sold in apps with monthly subscriptions that are designed to make you believe that they are helping you more than they are, to turn a profit.

Fuck "mindfulness". You do not need any of that shit. Just meditate.
take some time in your day. breathe deeply, focus on your breathing, a mantra, or anything else. notice thoughts as they happen, let them pass as you return to your focus. You can also try self hypnosis, if you want to take things a step further. Don't do "mindfulness". just meditate.

@soweliniko i once tried a "mindfulness" app based on a friend's recommendation. it had reminders and a gamified points system, so it was basically designed to stress you out if you didn't appease the system by listening to guided meditations enough. incredible awfulness

@soweliniko also i remember reading an article by a counsellor who was asked by a company to coach employees on mindful living. they got in trouble for letting employees know that living mindfully includes acknowledging when one's job is abusive
