Ceramics class! I made a trio of mugs, two of which are marbled, and I started on one of these donut shaped jugs that I was reading about on Wikipedia. That donut is hollow

@MLE_online It's fun to see your skills improve! (I hope you put a vent hole in your donut!!!)

@bosquebill I will be adding a neck to it so it can be filled with liquids

This mug, which I think is particularly cute, was a shape and style requested by my sister

I also got back the bowk that I threw out of Salton Sea clay. Unfortunately, it did not survive midfiring intact. It didn't quite melt. It just got soft and flopped down like a pancake.

The color is gorgeous though and the pumice-like bubbling is super interesting. I'm going to throw something else out of it and we're going to try firing it to cone 3 to see if it survives that

This is what I'm going to try to make with that donut

My first thought was: Ancient Roman Betatron!

@gigabecquerel what a funky tube

They were made in this shape supposedly because you can tie a rope through them or hang them from the horn of a saddle. I just thought it would be a fun challenge

I glazed the mug for my sister today. She requested it be black and white like the two cats she gave me. The brown turns black when fired

The marbled mugs came back from bisque firing today as well. I glazed these with a simple flat white glaze in a thin coat that will let the colors of the underlying clay bleed through

I also threw the beginnings of two mugs as gifts for friends, but I neglected to take any pictures.

Here's a picture of my hand though. I used a very dark clay rich in iron and it stains, so I've got orange steaks all over my hands right now

@MLE_online These are cool! The second one makes me hungry for Neapolitan ice cream. 😂

@APBBlue oh totally. I actually get hungry while working with those three clays marbled together because they look so much like a dessert at times

@MLE_online what a great thing! i occurs to me that it would also decrease the slosh factor

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@misternineham the slosh factor is so annoying in my hydroflask!

misternineham,
@misternineham@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online tired of being thrown off your feet by the resonance frequency of sloshing water? torus canteens are the answer!

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@misternineham I bet a modern hydroflask version would sell

@MLE_online it's beautiful. have you fired it yet?

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@blogdiva No, that's raw clay body still!

misternineham,
