@pgronkievitz @daviwil I consider that a feature, not a bug. Default is 100% free software because of the social goal to create a full-fledged libre OS. If people want non-free, they still have that option, they just need a few more steps. (disclaimer: I'm an FSF volunteer)

@mrak0 @pgronkievitz it was my impression that, on an organizational level, there is a strong aversion against an effort to port guix to Darwin. So there goes my motivation 😔

I bet maintaining a guix darwin port would be a pain in the ass, so I wouldn't judge people who don't want to get involved. But those who nevertheless decided to do this are definitely worth supporting. Someone already posted a link here in the replies.

@mrak0 @pgronkievitz I definitely would be and I understand the technical difficulties on macOS. I was more talking about the vibe I got regarding non-free OSes in general. I mean I get it, it’s supposed to be libre but the reality is that many people just can’t afford to go full GNU or don’t want to because of its general non-inclusive, old white men culture

I can't speak for all gnu in general, but in guix there is definitely no such thing.
I believe there was some schism in gnu a few years ago. So you may see a different atmosphere in different projects that consider themselves part of gnu. Someone even suggested that guix should abandon it's association with gnu, arguing that it harms it's reputation. But it seems that the guix maintainers decided it could deal with.

@pgronkievitz the sources of non free software like the Nonguix channel have their own comms channels where those kinds of questions can be asked. It's not perfect, but it's workable
