Thread of blurry photos across America. Amtrak journey begins, just outside of Whitefish.

Slept through all of North Dakota. Anyway here's Minnesota

View is getting boring as we approach Minneapolis

27 hours aboard. We have come to understand that the images outside are not real. There is, and has only ever been, Train

People come and go, but life was ever so. It is proof of nothing

The PA announcements on Amtrak are 50% helping smokers plan the logistics of what stops are long enough to step outside to smoke and how long they'll have to go between burns

They also assist my addiction but mine smells better

The east really has a Look

I guess you're gonna tell me that Wisconsin is "the midwest" but from where I'm coming it's the east

The platform in Tomah seems somewhat half assed

Chicago looks like a car place

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

33 hours aboard. A Korean man has blown a hole in the side of the train and we are all eager to find out if Chigaco supports human life

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

Quick impression but I kinda feel like Chicago actually has a more chaotic vibe than New York

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

Okay the difference is that this town seems to go to bed, I guess downtown is all offices.

They call this the great hall, it's pretty good I suppose

The vibes of Amtrak Chicago are fucking scary, I miss the open platforms

When I got on the train in Whitefish I saw zero security personnel. Here we were funneled through winding rope lines past a drug dog and half a dozen guys with their arms crossed.

Life doesn't have to be like this. There are places in the same country where life isn't like this.

It changes you too... on the Empire Builder I left my bag on the rack downstairs unattended. Here it's overhead, near me, because all signals say that people aren't to be trusted. You close up

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

Last leg of the trip was all in the dark, so blurry photo series is over.

Spend a while with a voice to text translation app trying to help a guy who only speaks... arabic?... looking for transportation from the station. well, moreso trying to explain that I cannot help because I've never been here before either. Why does nobody ever ask me for directions when I'm somewhere I know

Here is Ohio's oldest still operational covered bridge

sanityinc,

@chris__martin there's something funny about not wanting the bridge to get wet

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

@sanityinc well it's made of wood I guess
