A local Mediterranean restaurant offers some of the best fried potatoes I've ever eaten.

There are two options: medium cut potato rounds and large cut potato rounds, and the size describes the diameter of the slices of potato that are then fried.

The larger ones often end up in a super state where half of one is thin and crispy like an American "chip" (a UK crisp) while the other is thick and fluffy like an American fry (UK chip).

They are amazing.

@nyquildotorg These sound fantastic, and you should “DM" me where this is (or share publicly). :)

If you get the rounds, add the spicy garlic sauce and feta cheese. (I don't typically enjoy feta cheese, but the stuff on the fries is amazing.)

@nyquildotorg I get nostalgic for select food items we were served for "school dinners" (lunches in UK primary school). One dish I often pine over was the "lamb, gravy, and roast potatoes" which were golden brown, slightly crispy but still sort of soft on the interior. The gravy would soak into the potato like a sponge.

@onelson that sounds amazing.

@nyquildotorg the "puddings" after were also amazing. Rhubarb crumble with (hot) custard was a stand-out.

@onelson were there always mysteries the students had to solve because the faculty was disinterested, or does that get introduced in secondary school?

@onelson everything I know about school in the UK is from young adult novels and tv dramas.

@nyquildotorg In secondary school, one time, the Latin teacher was subbing in for the Religious Education teacher, and a mystery was someone kept hitting him with spitballs every time his back was turned.

Mr Lowther was very interested in solving that one.

@nyquildotorg Mr Lowther, the Latin teacher, was also my Rubgy coach. He was a little out there. Everyone picked on him, students and faculty alike.

@onelson until he found the secret dungeon with proof of the existence of King Arthur?

@nyquildotorg I just looked at the school's website and it turns out my old Physics teacher, and also "homeroom" in my senior year, is now Headmaster. Congrats Mr Demptster!
