Charabancs were very popular 100 years ago; I've no idea why, they've always looked like the most uncomfortable form of transport I've ever come across. They would draw up outside backstreet pubs up and down the land and transport the entire clientele to the nearest seaside resort, pleasure gardens, or racecourse.

@AlanBurnett Look at the road surface (cobblestones!). Then consider what was available before charabancs! Horse-drawn versions, so just as bumpy but typically running at 4-8mph instead of 10-25mph, with the added fragrant aroma of horse turds.

Transport has ALWAYS been shit (except for the 0.1%) and will remain so until we get teleport booths.
