(Nearly) done. The final tray is printed and looks good. Except I screwed up the internal measurement and the two trays of grad students don't fit.
Since the grad students are the cheaper thing to reprint, I'll do that. Alternatively I could also just put them back on the original plastic bag, it should work.
Okay so here's the insert tray. I did totally screw up the dimensions (103 vs 110!) because I sketched that first and separately. This time I sketched the new one on the face that it needed to nest into.
It's a good fit and easy to take out, although the grad students are a bit of a right fit.
The full box went through shake-test and survived as well as most other game box, so I count this as mission accomplished.
This is the first time I do something like this. I bought a laser cut wooden kit for The Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game years back, but that's the extent of it.
That I went through the effort over the weekend to measure, arrange, design, and print this whole organiser for Everyone Else Thinks This Game Is Awesome speaks volumes in terms of how much I enjoyed it when I played it with my wife and our friends last week.
I'll post the STL files and the Fusion 360 projects on Printables probably tomorrow. As I said there is room for improvement so I'll happily release them as CC-BY and if anyone else improves on it, enjoy!
