For someone who lives in San Francisco who doesn’t know how to drive a car, I’ve certainly eaten my way through large chunks of the Bay Area

@skinnylatte They should have tour buses that just take you from restaurant to restaurant, IMO lol

@jawnsy east coast ‘Chinatown’ buses are better than greyhound and deposits you near the best restaurants (they’re taken by restaurant workers who are moving around cities)

Growing up my mother normalized ‘taking trains and buses to another country to eat’ so I feel like it doesn’t bother me to take a train to Coliseum (for La Parilla Loca)

(It was relatively common to take my passport with me to school and hop in a bus to have lunch in Malaysia, as a teenager.. tho that’s a me thing, not necessarily a Singapore thing)

My hunger knows no borders, it cannot be contained

The other day I saw a Murican say ‘people who don’t have a driver’s license are geographically incurious’ and I laughed and laughed (I have taken buses and trains from Beirut to London..!)

@skinnylatte

"geographically incurious" sounds like someone deliberately limiting themselves to only where their own car can go.

@maya_b I see that it’s a tool to get to places, but it’s also just one tool and one very limited way of life

@skinnylatte

exactly. and if other means exist, why even drive?

I had a weekend in Boston from Montreal, and the wiper motor burnt out and needed to be replaced. Lost so much time getting that fixed that I could have been doing literally anything else.

@maya_b @skinnylatte I know right? I’ve found roads and car parks tend towards the same sorts of designs. Want to see something different? You’re going to need to catch a train, ride a bike, and or walk some.

@skinnylatte I remember thinking to myself years back "You know, I couldn't even drive across the street and yet I've stood at the tip of a peninsula in New Zealand looking out over what becomes thousands of miles of water with mountains in my eyesight to my left as I turn, I kinda think I win."

@skinnylatte Sadly, this is a product of our crappy public transit infrastructure. Many Americans were raised (including myself) to believe that driving means being independent.

In reality, drivers are dependent on car insurance, gas prices, and traffic congestion. :/

@skinnylatte LOL,that's amusing. I guess that 'Murican never noticed that all of human history before automobiles is littered with people who walked & rode animals far & wide, including (I'd bet) their own ancestors.
