I think the mistake a lot of people make with so-called AI is in assuming it's an innovation analogous to like, the internet or automobiles, when really a better point of comparison would be DDT or radium toothpaste
@resuna I was on the verge of pointing out that beanie babies were just toys, but I remember the 90's well enough to know how many people really didn't see it that way. Everyone knew someone who was convinced this was the only correct way to do... uh... finance
I think a mistake a lot of people make with AI is evidently not knowing anything about its multi-decade history and the benefits it has already provided and will continue to do so, and basing inane comments on a small fraction of its scope
