YouTuber: open software bad cuz me confused by using it. So it bad, you must use Adobe for to make the good art.

Me: look at all this money I've spent on food rather than a subscription to a worse program! Look at all this art I've made using a free program and one that cost me a one time $15!

My hot take: photoshop is a bad program and it's UI is god awful and you're deluding yourself if you think it's actually good. "Industry standard" just means everyone is using the same thing. Not that the thing is any good. You cannot convince me otherwise and do not bother trying.

@jadedtwin i like photoshop. What software are you using, because I'm still looking for an alternative. I tried affinity in the past and it came close enough for me, I could switch to that if it weren't for the boatload of PSD features that it won't support (I can recreate everything that I need, so no big problem just a major inconvenience)

@martijn GIMP. I know there's some issues with it's leadership, but the app (in my not so humble opinion) is literally the best out there.

I use aseprite for my pixel art tho

@jadedtwin oh, I used Gimp for my schoolwork back in 2004 when it was on par with photoshop 6. But I can't use it anymore, it really has strange behaviour on layers and there are a lot of features that I miss or have to work around.

The problem mostly is that I have to work with those 'industry standard files' and not always control the contents. I am able to use Inkscape instead of illustrator and have been doing that for years. For my use case it's in better shape than the gimp project
