google is getting worse and worse in areas I didn't expect them to get worse. A mail my wife sent me 2 hours ago somehow only now arrived.

@kyonshi This is something that's always surprised me.... the specs for email state that it can take up to 48 hours or so for it to arrive. It wasn't designed to be real time.
But since it is, in effect, real time more than 99.999% of the time, and has been for years, nobody pays the least bit of attention to how it was intended and designed to work.

@Da_Gut the thing is yes, and if it was between different servers I maybe would not even mind so much, but this was between two gmail addresses

@kyonshi @Da_Gut If it were me, I'd spend some time looking at the raw header of the email to see how many of Google's servers it bounced around. I had an email from an associate that apparently went through several different Google subdomains before I got it. I have no idea how their network is structured but I'd wager that despite the illusion of it all going to the same gmail domain two different addresses may be a distance from each other on the network.
