His detractors dragged him for being pedantic, but were rarely curious about why he preferred ‘engineer.’ … As Albini saw it, his job was to document a band at a specific point in their career, making the drums, especially, sound excellent. He wasn’t there to fix a song’s structure, or boldly suggest phase shifting everything during the song’s bridge.”
