I tried coming up with a good pun for that post, but it felt too forced.

@michaelslade I was think something similar. Their idea of a Millenial looks a lot like a Gen-Xer.

I had a fun lunch with @andypiper today and spent a few hours nerding out about open protocols and the fediverse. He brought this 3D printed version of the Mastodon mascot.

Flash back to the time I discovered that Comix Experience was distributing my comic for free. What a great surprise, I was so happy to see it https://mastodon.social/@docpop/111342236424986911

"Trying to get Steve Reich, James Brown, and John Bonham in the room together" is how Dosh describes his funky new track, "Stone Cold Boogie". This 9 minute jam is what I've been listening to this morning. https://dosh.bandcamp.com/track/stone-cold-boogie?from=butts

I highly recommend picking up the remastered edition of his debut album too.

Gaming friends: Braid, Anniversary Edition is out today! This version has fully repainted graphics, new puzzles, and added in-game commentary. When the game was originally released 16 years ago, it was designed for 720p, so I'm excited to see how much better this new version looks. It's available on Steam, Switch, Playstation, Xbox, and even Netflix. http://braid-game.com/

@docpop I'm interested in the yellow Desert Island Yo but it has been out of stock for some time.

Do you have plans to restock the yellow or did I miss the boat?

docpop,
@docpop@mastodon.social avatar

@salcode Currently I have black and white in stock, but will order more in the summer. I just checked on Yoyoexpert, but they are out too. I guess the yellow is more popular than I expected.

The Jim Henson Company is making a live-action adaptation of John Gardner's "Grendel", with Jeff Bridges playing Grendel, Dave Bautista playing Beowulf and Bryan Cranston playing King Hrothgar. https://variety.com/2024/film/news/grendel-jeff-bridges-bryan-cranston-jim-henson-company-1235998911/

As awesome as that sounds, I keep hoping we'll get an adaptation of Matt Wagner's "Grendel" comics. Particularly the Hunter Rose era. Apparently Netflix was working on one a few years ago but cancelled the project https://bleedingcool.com/tv/grendel-netflix-series-details-cancellation-crushing-matt-wagner/

Today is Ritual Roasters’s 19 anniversary. I moved to SF a few weeks prior to Ritual’s opening and spent a lot of time at their location on Valencia St (I lived a block away). Over the years I’ve made a lot of art and friends at this location too. Happy birthday, Ritual!

Me in line at Ritual Roasters. I’m wearing a grey KN95 mask, a Benders baseball cap, and a Tech Won’t Save Us hoodie in bright yellow.

docpop,

@godzero that's fair. I think their lattes are fantastic, but I'm not necessarily in love with their roasts. It's possible that their baristas are good at what they do, but the beans (particularly the espresso roast) could use improvement.

@DocPop here's a great write up with Sickid about his art around LA. https://www.avantpopbooks.com/post/the-artist-sickid-s-twisted-parallel-universe
His painting style is very different than his slaps, but you can see some crossover from time to time. https://www.instagram.com/sickid1/

The lesson from the center bikeway debacle: when you "compromise" in such a way that you lose the confidence of the people you're building FOR—cyclists, in this case—you fail.

While some of us now defend this bike lane as a partial improvement, no one loved it. It didn't boost bike riding, and made it hard for cyclists to pull over and stop at a business. So businesses got all the downsides and no upside. It didn't have to be this way.

https://missionlocal.org/2024/04/businesses-join-legal-battle-valencia-center-bike-lane/

docpop,
@docpop@mastodon.social avatar

@scott I hated the center lane at first, but have grown to really like it for many reasons. It's certainly a huge improvement from the non-existent bike lane we had before. I'd still prefer side running lanes though.

I'll also add that cyclists has increased and it sounds like local businesses can see a small uptick in sales, but both of those improvements were very modest. Side running would probably be a more singificant improvement for businesses and folks who use the bike lane.
