Correctly configuring so that you can use dovecot-sieve to filter spam is way harder than it needs to be and honestly I'm suspicious as to why this isn't a default package out of the box in the year 2024.

To be clear this was like 2-3 hours of my life reading the docs and learning about the differences between mailbox_transport, virtual_transport, and local_transport in .

Still, running my own mail server feels like navigating a labyrinth on the best days.

@thatgeoguy and then there is DKIM and DMARC and SPF oh my!

An email server is like a Ronco Showtime Rotisserie™️ from Hell. You set it (which takes all day) and forget it (until it breaks, or Google or Microsoft change the rules)

@msh That's a good metaphor!

Fortunately I managed to upgrade my entire server recently without breaking DKIM, DMARC, or SPF!

But does that mean I can filter spam? Nope! Gotta do 100 more steps to get there…
