has anyone, in the history of websites and apps, ever found a chatbot useful? when they were powered by humans? what more with random gibberish with AI agents? i don't understand why that is groundbreaking

  • customer-facing chatbots.

@skinnylatte I was absolutely shocked yesterday after a website chat with LegalZoom support that actually solved my problem in a quick and efficient manner (pretty sure it was a legit human on the other end, not a bot). I half expected it to be a cruel customer service joke, but this morning I got email confirmation of the problem being solved, and when I checked the documentation, 💫

¯_(ツ)_/¯

@skinnylatte we did our weekly show-and-tell meeting today and one person's thing to talk about was showing how Copilot mangled some tests they were working on and how they could BY HAND fix the tests

"but it kinda works sometimes"

?????

(i've found them useful when 1. it's a small biz and i know they're online 2. they can provide me with specific help immediately)

otherwise... all chatbots have been kind of awful for me

even the stuff pre-AI that was like 'agents giving you links to docs'

well, write better docs, have better IA

@skinnylatte I will say this: my startup was purchased by a public company last year, and there is a chatbot we can use for internal systems. ("please get me access to system X," "how do I get info Y," "how do I change my Salesforce access," etc.).

Because there are MYRIAD internal systems, and different systems require different processes (some need a Service Now ticket, some require Jira... it's dizzying. The Bot is REALLY good for this stuff.

@danciruli nice. I think if it’s ’automate a bunch of complex steps’ rather than ‘reduce human touchpoints’ that’s useful. That’s also how I’ve been using ai tools
