‘The iPad Feels Lost’, with some damning supercuts. Short and sweet

@stroughtonsmith "it's like a mullet" :)

Price @ 4:25ish:
Why would you not expect an iPP with 1TB of storage to be more expensive than the base MacBook Pro? The base MBP has half the memory and half the storage.
You don't even need to make the weird comparison, if you compare the 1TB 16 GB MacBookPro the iPad is still more expensive with Magic Keyboard and Pencil.
(The iPad technically has some superior specs (Screen, touch capabilities) but it is kind of ridiculous that it costs almost $400 more)

@stroughtonsmith I was with him until that last take about not wanting to cannibalize the Mac. That just feels incorrect.

@cdoncarroll @stroughtonsmith Agree. I think they genuinely (but misguidedly) believe that keeping the limits they’re putting on the iPadOS are what’s best for the overall iPad experience across consumer + professional users. Not because they want to protect MacBook sales.

Heck, if they could flip half of those MacBook users over to iPadOS and get more money from accessory sales that’d be more money for them 😂

@markv @cdoncarroll @stroughtonsmith I dunno. I get the impression the aim isn’t to have X replace Y. The aim is to get you to buy X and Y. Every time.

@craiggrannell @cdoncarroll @stroughtonsmith Looks like even Apple is pretty much saying exactly that, out loud:

@markv @cdoncarroll @stroughtonsmith It has for a long time now. The problem is I believe this also impacted on key UX decisions. Apple expended a lot of engineering time on letting you drag documents between multiple machines (which gave great demo) but ignored mundane but genuinely useful features like proper external display support for iPad. It was a bit embarrassing that a Samsung phone often did better there than an Apple tablet.
