@ppk Thanks for this. Good to see there are still people who believe in Web Monetization (as do I). I thought the premature sunsetting of Coil.com was completely baffling. Do you have any idea why that approach was discontinued?
@bartnv Coil was more like a proof of concept. Question: Are people interested in Web Monetization as a system? The answer appears to be Yes, and that's great!
But Coil worked with "donations" that you gave to them and they gave to website owners because Coil wasn't recognised as a bank or bank-adjacent entity, and thus had no right to touch your money.
@bartnv It was solving this particular problem that took us years - regulatory authorities aren't what anyone would call quick.
But now we have wallets that are recognised as bank-like thingies in some countries, and we can start running real Web Monetization - as soon as the last kinks are worked out of the browser extension.
@ppk That sounds great, and closer to reality than I got the impression it was. I've tried to glean what the Interledger Foundation was up to, but despite them being very open I had a hard time getting a sense of the project status as a whole.
@bartnv Haha, I see this only now. You're right that the ILF combines radical openness with confused communication - though we hope to improve the latter. I'm going to share your comment internally.
