@gabriel Yeah that's definitely true. For my needs I'm alright with Telegram (vs eg Whatsapp) since the client apps are open source and they're based in the UAE so western feds probably don't have easy access to my messages

They use tdlib under the hood, right? So theoretically it might be possible to sort of do this by making a matrix or xmpp client library with an identical API?
