Like yea fakeroot is one sandbox. I recognize that makepkg does not do a chroot for you but I was not about to go through Gentoo builds although Gentoo users are also guilty of not reading ebuilds and letting portage handle all the dirty work. I will respect PKGBUILD and ebuilds because they’re CONSISTENT.
@slonk yes that’s responsible to do so. I am not poking fun at making a chroot for packages I’m poking fun at the fact people will just blindly use makepkg without a chroot
@slonk hot take but ideally compilers should not be in your system packages but instead in chroots and dedicated build environments. This is actually not that hot of a take as nix sysadmins know this especially when it comes to end users. There is no reason for base-devel to be blindly installed everywhere lol. It gets me because on one hand yes it’s convenient I’m not gonna hide the fact that when I was an arch enthusiast I had base-devel installed and didn’t bother with chroots…
@slonk my main thing for why arch is the worst is that while PKGBUILD is cool the tools are cool often times people will get in this sense of complacency and not really respect what’s happening under the scenes. I’m speaking from experience as I was that arch user and after a couple broken installations I figured things out :kekw:
