it's about that time in the year where I don't need to have my heater on anymore, but my cat loves having her bed next to it and being very warm and becoming a liquid. I want to get her a heating pad or something, but I've heard those can be dangerous for them for some reason? does anyone have any recommendations for a cat heat source? #catposting
@jonny /subscribe for heat mats. My partner had seed warming mats out for a while and they were extremely cat magnets. Just a few degrees warmer than ambient, so no burn risk or whatever. Currently we just have a pile of very fluffy fleece leg-warmer type blankets, which cats can sink into and be burrito'd up in. Can confirm they are well loved.
@danderson I am just imagining the little kitties cuddling up with the plants and it is too cute.
I know that she wants to be very warm because during a heatwave where it got to be 120F we went out and got a small air conditioner and taped off a section of a room so the cats could be cool but she just kept running out of it because she wanted to just be a dead body and all liquid at max heat.
@danderson and yes I have fluffy fleece blanket too and it is her favorite place to be (except for her bed next to the heater). I leave for work and she's on it and I come home and I don't think she has moved.
Searching around, it seems the warmings are mostly about electric blankets, where a cat's claws could reach the inner heating wire and shock them? The seed mats we had were hard plastic with embedded heaters, so I think I'd look for something similarly immune to claws, and perhaps put a thin blanket overtop so it's a diffuse warm spot?
