@pixelcats let's face it chances are there is some SB/Hybe America influence here. SB is a one trick pony. He's partly why US pop is in the state that's it's in. It's all very over produced, formulaic, and dreadfully repetitive.
@pixelcats is it just me or is the rap line a bit more selective in who they work with vs the maknae line? It feels like the Jimin and JK are so damn eager to break into American/western music scene they are willing to work with anyone where as Joonie and Hobi reached out to very specific and highly respected artists. I mean to each their own but this makes me worry about who is influencing them cough SB cough cough he's history is "make the artist successful" regardless the personal cost.
@GQB I wonder if it's a lack of confidence in their writing / producing abilities. The hyungs have had lots of time to gain experience and confidence, long before dudes like SB showed up.
I'm so glad Jimin made his album with Pdogg to support him. He'll grow from that and probably resist. Let's hope Jungkookie does too and this is just a single. Namjoon and Yoongi won't let their boy do anything too crazy, right?

@pixelcats@OT7RockBison@GQB See my problem was that song is right in my musical wheelhouse—I heard the teaser ONCE and had the hook stuck in my head for days. I haven’t gone out of my way to listen to it but I don’t mind when it shows up on streaming playlists. Still think it was a WTF collab though, I (without any evidence) blame SB and hope the backlash was enough that Jimin will be more selective about collabs going forward.

So much that it left so many of us wondering about why there was a part 2? I want to assume that the guys know the icky shit but who knows what they know outside hearing the tunes these artists made and saying "hey I like that".
@mintmori@pixelcats@OT7RockBison For a label who has spent so much time and $$$ protecting their artists reps then to let sketchy collabs happen is suspect as hell. Now I'm not saying Lotto is a sketchy collab. Just somewhat unexpected. CP collab on L&R raised a few eyebrows too. I guess I look at it as BTS have so much invested in their careers as a team and solo, I'd hate to any tarnish ruboff bc of sketchy collabs due to SB or anyone else not vetting people.
A lot of it has to do with the labels they sign with for US promotions. Monsta X did a song with French Montana because the label thought it was a good idea...the one live stage of it where they performed together went...badly (as in he forgot half his part of the song)... but the label thought it was a good idea sooo....
also, the song is hella good without French Montana in it

OK, given I was today years old when I learned there's a rapper named "French Montana," WTF even was that? I see a KPop band giving their all, and then a white guy stumbles out and mumbles. And then he shuffles away. Was he drunk? Is he stupid? What?

Just wait until I end up on a tangent about who in kpop is related to who or were trainees together at different companies. Those get really interesting...and also makes petty fanwars look stupid af because they're all friends or sometimes even literally family...

I've seen fan vids of how the band started (generally utterly FABULOUS and professional) but they all do the history like "First RM then SUGA then Hobi then JK...." But we all know there were a krillion other trainees at BigHit, and several were gonna be in BTS at some point. Is there a history of BTS that includes the guys who ended up elsewhere?
I'll admit what I know about KPop could fit in a thimble (with room left for JK's banana milk). But I have gleaned that BTS was originally going to be a hip hop band, and I've read about a couple Korean rappers who were going to be members back in the day.
@GQB@pixelcats@OT7RockBison I have so many thoughts on this, in my cynical opinion men are shockingly oblivious to sketchiness. However in this case it sounded like none of the artists knew who else was going to be on the track? Which is some mass-produced nonsense, I don’t want that for the boys.
@GQB@pixelcats Hm I guess I have a bit of a different feeling, because while I have issues with SB, I always got the impression that JK loves Western pop, and that he himself is interested in playing the Western pop star game. I assumed from the announcement that this would be an English track designed to go for the top of the charts. Yes I think that’s what Hybe wants, but I also think that’s the kind of art JK wants to try right now.
@pixelcats@mintmori I don't disagree with JK wanting to make western music or topping the charts. I think bringing his vision to western audiences is great. He's extraordinarily gifted. JK seems to have a good head on his shoulders although sometime he makes us wonder. 🤦🏻♀️

@scribblemoose@pixelcats what he needs to realize is letting them as BTS or solos just do what they have been doing is enough. He thinks it isn't but it is. Billboard keeps changing the rules bc they know it's enough. The "recording academy" will never award them a Grammy bc it is known for its pettiness along with its racist and misogynistic bs. Hell western Black artists see the Grammy bs. Get over Bang PD and just make good music.
@GQB I remember the controversy at the time. Nicki gave such an amazingly creative performance for a US awards show, and there was SO. much drama. Clearly the Grammys are run by assholes who throw artists under the bus to protect their 'brand'.
I'm glad RM and it even seems like Yoongi has now moved on from desperately wanting a Grammy.
So irrelevant these days too. The only times I've watched in the last at least 7 or 8 years is when there are Tannies present! 🤣
@scribblemoose@pixelcats when you look at the list of folks getting nominated but not getting Grammies, like snoop dog(WTF?) it's clear they don't like hiphop and rap or even R&B despite what they say. They have always had a diversity problem from top to bottom. That's why I haven't watched in ages, I'll catch the acts I want to see on YouTube. Not even gonna give them my viewership to add to their numbers.
@GQB@scribblemoose@pixelcats it’s so sad to see. The use these groups to get audience/streams but they never get the rewards that they deserve. I stopped watching also and will finds the performances I want to see elsewhere.
