GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com)

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

clobble_wobble,

I thought Split Gate was shutting down.

Otherwise I'd agree it's great fun.

Penalizing Leavers

Am I the only one being fed up with leavers in unranked? People joining, going solo and then leaving immediately when downed? This seems so easy to solve by the devs and yet it's still an issue. I'd wish they just made it so you can only reconnect and can not join another match while the previous match is ongoing......

clobble_wobble,

Rocket league does this and it's the reason I don't play anymore.

RL's matchmaking routinely kicked my friend out of matches after they've completed. Everything I go leave a match to join him (since I have the audacity of wanting to play woth my friend) RL would punish me and say I can't join another match for 5-10 minutes.

Doing this for ranked? Sure I get it. Everyone that signs up is supposed to be committed to trying. But unranked is supposed to be more casual and less commitment. If I have to leave a match prematurely to handle something irl real quick then come back, or if their netcode kicks my friend out and i want to join his match I shouldn't get punished for that.

So I hope apex doesn't start doing that.

clobble_wobble,

Yeah Reddit had this fascination with being "right" all the timing and "owning" stupid people...

clobble_wobble,

Yeah that's something I'm really excited to see come out of Rexxit is the (hopeful) revival of smaller communities. Or at least larger communities that aren't owned by one corporation that neds to profit off of said users.

clobble_wobble,

Yeah I would have loved more concrete examples, but looking at the reaction here I feel like the author is just channeling what a lot of early web users feel nowadays.

clobble_wobble,

I deleted my 10+ year old accounts a month or so back when Reddit had that data breach.

Kinda glad the API fuckery

  1. Validated my decision and
  2. Introduced me to some good alternatives.
clobble_wobble,

It's a much better name than the "Digg Exodus"

Domain Knowledge or a lack thereof (2013) (jacquesmattheij.com)

I believe that a lack of domain knowledge is the root cause of a lot of very bad software that gets developed and I think that it is up to computer programmers and their managers to deal with this. Acquiring domain knowledge is an essential component in the development of software that really works well for its users.

clobble_wobble,

"Domain" in this case refers to the space you're building software in. Not the website name. For simplicity its kinda like business logic. For example if youre working at DoorDash your domain would involve the rules around orders, restaurants, etc.

The term was popularized by Eric Evans' book Domain Driven Design.
