Does anyone know of any alternatives to hoppy.network? I can’t seem to find any other services that do what Hoppy does. (Hoppy uses wireguard to assign publicly-accessible static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to devices)
I’m looking to maybe replace my VPS with something like Hoppy and a Raspberry Pi (I imagine the Pi 5 8GB might be stronger than anything I can get for $8/m). I have a static public IP anyway, but I’d rather not host websites and stuff using that.
And created the firewall rules to forward (some) incoming traffic to my home server.
I guess this is the missing piece for me. I’ve already got all of my devices and VPSes setup with Tailscale, I’m just not sure which software to use that can do this forwarding.
I know Tailscale Funnels, Cloudflare Tunnels, and Caddy could be solutions for some, but in my experience they only do TCP or restrict what sort of traffic can be forwarded.
Last night I was nearly tearing my hair out trying to get a crappy inkjet printer installed when I turned to ChatGPT for help; 5 minutes later it was done (driver issues)....
Honestly I think it’s probably too soon for the kind of significant performance increase Valve is wanting for the Steam Deck 2. Not to mention that the OLED deck just came out. That said, even if these chips don’t make it to a Deck 2 I’m sure we’ll see them in competing devices....
If you’re the only one connecting to the server, I would recommend something like Tailscale. Everything will be encrypted and you won’t need to forward any ports to the public internet.
If other people need to access it, an option might be hoppy.network. I haven’t tried it myself, but it looks like it would be pretty slick if it works well.
I use the right pad instead of the right stick for any game that could use it for pointing/aiming. Really, the only ones I wouldn’t use it for are games that use the right stick for other stuff, like Skater XL or Session maybe
Edit: Big thanks to everybody who shared their advice! :) I’m very pleasantly surprised and will definitely explore all the options you guys provided, such as getting an additional router or configuring Tailscale. Again, big thanks to everyone!...
I don’t recommend Oracle at all if you value your sanity. Paying a couple bucks a month for DigitalOcean or Vultr (or probably almost anything else) is so worth it compared to dealing with that monstrosity
Also, I’ve experienced this, and I’ve heard reports of others having the same issue; Oracle might just randomly delete/disable your VPS
Which modmanager should I use? I’ve seen that Vortex can be used but the majority of people I’ve seen don’t like it. I’d like to mod Skyrim and Darkest Dungeon
Buying it on Steam after the epic exclusivity rewards the developers/publishers for their anti-consumer behavior. This double-dipping practice is greedy and I personally won’t purchase any game that’s ever been epic exclusive

Like the other commenter mentioned, ChatGPT can be really helpful for these kind of questions. I’m not sure if there’s any “starter guide” since everyone starts with different wants and needs.
I will say, you should look into Tailscale once you’ve got your services up and running on your home network. Tailscale makes it simple and secure to access those services from outside your home network without any port forwarding.
I’ve read a lot of recommendations for tailscale and am on my way to try it out myself. Do you use Tailscale in the “normal” way or do you host your own Headscale server (as I’m planning to do)? Any pros and cons?
