solberg,

I’m looking to maybe replace my VPS with something like Hoppy and a Raspberry Pi (I imagine the Pi 5 8GB might be stronger than anything I can get for $8/m). I have a static public IP anyway, but I’d rather not host websites and stuff using that.

solberg,

Thanks. This solution looks like it might work, too.

solberg,

Thank you.

And created the firewall rules to forward (some) incoming traffic to my home server.

I guess this is the missing piece for me. I’ve already got all of my devices and VPSes setup with Tailscale, I’m just not sure which software to use that can do this forwarding.

I know Tailscale Funnels, Cloudflare Tunnels, and Caddy could be solutions for some, but in my experience they only do TCP or restrict what sort of traffic can be forwarded.

solberg,

Data Analysis is nice for converting files and cropping images I’ve found.

New AMD CPU leak looks like a perfect fit for Steam Deck 2 (www.pcgamesn.com)

Honestly I think it’s probably too soon for the kind of significant performance increase Valve is wanting for the Steam Deck 2. Not to mention that the OLED deck just came out. That said, even if these chips don’t make it to a Deck 2 I’m sure we’ll see them in competing devices....

solberg,

I kind of wonder if they would switch to ARM for the next one

solberg,

If you’re the only one connecting to the server, I would recommend something like Tailscale. Everything will be encrypted and you won’t need to forward any ports to the public internet.

If other people need to access it, an option might be hoppy.network. I haven’t tried it myself, but it looks like it would be pretty slick if it works well.

solberg,

I think it depends on what kind of services they are using as I think Funnel is designed for HTTPS traffic, no UDP or custom ports.

solberg,

I use Mullvad through Tailscale. If you already use Tailscale it’s a no-brainer

solberg,

I was looking at this the other day. It would be nice if there was a self-hosted equivalent of untitled.stream

solberg,

I use the right pad instead of the right stick for any game that could use it for pointing/aiming. Really, the only ones I wouldn’t use it for are games that use the right stick for other stuff, like Skater XL or Session maybe

solberg,

It’s not a Termius alternative, but I found that after setting up Tailscale SSH on all my servers, I don’t really bother using Termius any more.

The plain macOS terminal looks better to me anyway

solberg,

Great, excited for more chromium browsers 🙄

solberg,

I don’t recommend Oracle at all if you value your sanity. Paying a couple bucks a month for DigitalOcean or Vultr (or probably almost anything else) is so worth it compared to dealing with that monstrosity

Also, I’ve experienced this, and I’ve heard reports of others having the same issue; Oracle might just randomly delete/disable your VPS

solberg,

I’m using Mullvad through Tailscale now. Works OK. I think Proton has a free plan

solberg,

I haven’t tried it on Linux, but I wouldn’t want to mod Skyrim without using Mod Organizer

solberg,

This game was an epic games exclusive. Consider skipping it or acquiring it through other means

solberg,

Buying it on Steam after the epic exclusivity rewards the developers/publishers for their anti-consumer behavior. This double-dipping practice is greedy and I personally won’t purchase any game that’s ever been epic exclusive

[discussion]: regarding the best OS for a pirate

This post started out as a question, but throughout two days of googling it became this compilation of links. I will tell you everything worth mention that I found, share my plan with you, and expect some critics (for the infos of course, please not for the silly hyperactivity of my ADHD brain over such a trivial matter, come on...

solberg,

This is just great! Tailscale is doing ALL the right things it seems. So happy to try this out

Where to find guide on self hosting for a complete beginner?

I am completely new to the realm of self hosting. I don’t know a single thing about how I can self host stuff. Regardless, I have the curiousity to learn it by myself but I don’t know where to start. I cannot find any sort of wiki or FAQ articles, nor do I have the ability to ask the forum for every single problem or doubt I...

solberg,

Like the other commenter mentioned, ChatGPT can be really helpful for these kind of questions. I’m not sure if there’s any “starter guide” since everyone starts with different wants and needs.

I will say, you should look into Tailscale once you’ve got your services up and running on your home network. Tailscale makes it simple and secure to access those services from outside your home network without any port forwarding.

solberg,

This is a dream come true. Also it’s not working at all for me but I imagine they’ll work out the kinks over the next few weeks

solberg,

Yes. I filed a bug report.

solberg,

I’m loving it but I can’t get it to work 😂
