Look what I found today!!!
Does anybody remember Capacitance Electronic Discs?

Theyre analog video discs where playback on TVs were achieved by using a stylus, similar to that of records. Fucking wild!

Developed by RCA, they failed MISERABLY; due to MANY reasons. By the time they figured it out, they were obsolete, rendered useless by VHS and Laser Discs.

I bought these for $5 for use as art pieces, & because they’re a few of my favorite movies. 💩

I can’t even imagine how SHITTY these movies must have looked. 😂 If VHS tapes and BetaMax made them obsolete?!?? 😂

They looked fantastic -- until they got skips. There are a few movies in which I always unconsciously anticipate the skips, because the copy we had when I was a kid had them.

VHS "winning" was mostly about the convenience and the ability to record. The video quality was somewhat poorer.

@SrRochardBunson NEITHER HAD I. Happy to take them home for art. So unique!
Apparently, RCA lost something in the neighborhood of $650 MILLION DOLLARS on them. I mean… they’re not even getting the $5 I spent on them. 😂
