I know Hard Drive is satire, but I'm not entirely convinced this specific article is satire. 😆

Album of the Day 256: It Doesn't Matter by Saxon Shore

https://saxonshore.bandcamp.com/album/it-doesnt-matter

2009 post-rock album from Los Angeles, California. "This Place" pushes into a shoegaze/dream pop direction with guest vocals from Caroline Lufkin.

My picks: "Nothing Changes," "This Place," "Bar Clearing Good Times"

Album of the Day 255: Kollektiv by Kollektiv

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4YXHLIh6mo

1973 krautrock/jazz-rock album from Germany. Effectively a jazz-rock jam band with psych thrown into the mix. The tracks from the original vinyl release have plenty of great flute playing, swapped out for saxophone in the bonus tracks added for the CD release. The distorted sax sound on "Pap-Jack" is pretty wild.

My picks: "Rambo Zambo," "Gaged," "Pap-Jack"

Album of the Day 254: View-Monster by Lemon Demon

https://needlejuice.bandcamp.com/album/view-monster

2008 indie pop album from Boston, Massachusetts. A pretty uneven album, containing some of my favorite Lemon Demon songs, but also several forgettable or too gimmicky songs. Even if it's not as great as his later albums, there's still plenty of charm to it, and I'd still recommend it.

My picks: "Amnesia Was Her Name," "The Only House That's Not On Fire (Yet)," "The Machine," "Bill Watterson"

Album of the Day 253: Torn In Two by Deru

https://deru.bandcamp.com/album/torn-in-two

2018 ambient album from Los Angeles, California. Harsh, distorted electronics, contrasted with Philip Glass–esque melodies or atmospheric drones.

My picks: "Refuge," "Pyre," "Warmer Nights"

Album of the Day 252: LegVacuum by Armcannon

https://armcannon.bandcamp.com/album/legvacuum

2008 progressive metal album consisting of covers of classic video game themes. There's a strong keyboard/synth presence on the album, with occasional segments that focus on piano— not what I typically think of with metal, but works rather well here.

My picks: "Metroid - Kraid/Cranial Syphon," "Super Metroid/Super Cranial Syphon," "The Legend of Zelda I + II/Dozen Elf Death Gel"

Can definitely recommend Since I Left You and Wildflower. We Will Always Love You hasn't clicked with me the way the other two have, but I've been meaning to give it another shot.

Album of the Day 251: Maar by The Evpatoria Report

https://the-evpatoria-report.bandcamp.com/album/maar

2008 post-rock album from Switzerland. There's definitely a bit of space rock or prog here, with long, meandering songs. At times reminds me of Grails, especially the back half of "Mithridate."

My picks: "Eighteen Robins Road," "Mithridate"

Album of the Day 250: Hellfire by black midi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfAOFyhfZJU&list=OLAK5uy_kUzro9EulGZUsIl-Bvn8hnQmPZU0jpSHw&index=1

https://bmblackmidi.bandcamp.com/album/hellfire

2022 experimental rock album from London, England. A crazy experience that takes from prog rock, show tunes, jazz fusion, and more. A hellish nightmare concept album, at times sung, at other times ranted in a blend of carnival barker and auctioneer; often hectic, occasionally soft, frequently discordant.

My picks: "Eat Men Eat," "Welcome to Hell," "Dangerous Liasons"

@matt I'm a fan of To Be Kind, but I've not got around to listening to other albums by Swans.

I've heard of Daughters, but only really know of the band because of the abuse accusations against the lead singer.

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@matt It leaves me a bit divided on whether to listen to Daughters.

On the one hand, the rest of the band wasn't involved in any of this, to the best of my knowledge. Is it right to ignore a band based on the actions of one member?

On the other hand... Well, you know. 🫤

LadyMarth01,

@auzzy At first, I had no idea what I was listening to.

Then I wasn't sure I liked it.

I'm pretty sure I love this now.

The last two full albums I listened to both had Roman numerals in the title, and were both numbered "II".

Anyone have other recommendations of albums with "II" in the title?

So last year I watched Batman: The Animated Series, Batman '89 and Batman Returns. A friend lent me a copy of Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. I thought all of those were great.

I recently watched the Harley Quinn animated series. The same friend lent me a copy of Superman For All Seasons, Dark Night: A True Batman Story, and Batman: Hush. Then I bought these through a combo of my local hobby shop and Target's buy 2 get 1 free sale.

I might have a problem. 😆

@JTO_is_Typing I remember watching Batman Beyond when I was young, but I don't remember much. I'll probably get around to watching it at some point after watching some other DCAU shows.
